Every one of us has hundreds of questions we are crying out to have answered. Yet no one seems to have any answers! We look to our teachers and we are told "make up your own mind", so we remain confused.
We turn to our leaders only to see their lives full of the same problems we face divorce, drugs and disappointment - and we turn away in despair still without any answers.
Yet secretly we hold on to the half-submerged dreams that there must be more to life than this. From deep inside comes the cry "Gotta get a life".
But where should we look, "Who has the key that will unlock the meaning of my life and give me a purpose for living?"
From The Spice Girls, Oasis, Michael Jackson back to The Beatles to name but a few. The stadiums of the world have echoed from the pop stars of each generation singing about freedom, inner peace and serenity.
The majority of rock concerts and albums shout the same message: "Gotta get a life!". Each generation for a moment clams to have found the elixir of life.
"The answer lies in free sex" sang the stars of the 60's. Then came AIDS! The 70's answer was drink and drugs. Then came the highest suicide rate in the history of the world.
The solution of the 1980's was individual fame and wealth. The result? The collapse of social and moral values. Is that really what life is all about?
INCIDENTALLY.
What are those stars of yesterday singing about today? What is the solution of the 90's? Simply this - that there is no answer!
They have tried it all and none of it works. So where do we go from here? Who do we look to now? If our teachers can't help us, our leaders can't guide us and our heroes have even given up looking. What hope is there for us?
Maybe the answer to our problems lies in the supernatural. Perhaps there really is some deeper meaning or force to direct us.
Literally millions upon millions turn daily to horoscopes, tarot cards and fortune tellers to find their answers.
Others wear and swear by crystals of all shapes and sizes. Still others spend all their time cross legged with pyramids suspended over their heads! Each one is searching. Each one is crying out "Give me a meaning give me an answer. Gotta get a life".
Jesus Christ God's Son is the solution to every one of your needs. The answer to every one of your questions.
You say "I am worthless, an accident, no one loves me". Jesus replies "God loves you an even the hairs on your head are counted". YOU ARE NOT WORTHLESS - YOU ARE PRICELESS.
You cry out for a meaning and purpose for your life. God says. "I know the plans I have for you- plans to prosper you and give you a hope and a future".
Your life is not meaningless - God created you for a purpose. You yell, "Gotta get a life". Jesus answers straight to your heart "I have come that you can have an abundant life".
You do not have to merely exist - You were created to enjoy life to the full.
You shout out for a meaningful relationship with someone who you can rely on. Jesus replies, "I will never leave you or desert you". People today feel insecure, insular and frightened, not knowing who they can really trust. Everyone just takes and takes and no one is ready to give back. Everyone is out for themselves.
Jesus is ready, willing and able to invest his time and resources into you - directly into your situation. No matter how out of touch with God you feel. No matter how far you have slipped. No matter how bad your life is.
Almost all of us have read or at least recognise the 23rd Psalm in the Bible. It begins, "The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want", etc. Just a few verses further on it says, "He restores my soul", (i.e. Life).
God is still in the restoration business. He does not restore furniture or beat up old cars. HE RESTORES LIVES. Broken beat up lives that the world would throw on the scrap heap. He rebuilds lives. He wants to rebuild your life. HE WANTS YOU TO GET A LIFE I just Gotta get a Life.... If you want to put God at the centre of your life then God is only a prayer away. Why not take that step right now? You might find this prayer helpful:
Dear God... I admit I am a sinner and need your forgiveness I believe that Jesus Christ died in my place paying the penalty for my sins; I am willing right now to turn from my sin and accept Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour and Lord. I commit myself to you and ask you to send the Holy Spirit into my life, to fill me and to help me become the kind of person you want me to be. Thank-you God for loving me, In Jesus name Amen.
The Bible says in 1 John 5:11-13
